THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg split a doubleheader with Kinston last night, taking game one 2-0 and dropping game two 8-1...The Hillcats went 3-4 on their seven-game homestand and tonight they start their final series of the first half of the season at Potomac...
VS. POTOMAC: The Hillcats are 5-5 against the Nationals thus far this season with both teams taking a series on their home field and last weekend they split a four-game series...Lynchburg is 159-150 against Potomac all-time and are 72-76 at the Pfitz...Last season the Cats won the season series with the P-Nats 11-9...
ALRIGHT, WE'LL CALL IT A DRAW: Lynchburg split their doubleheader with Kinston last night and they have now split four of their five double dips this season and were swept in the other...The Cats are 1-4 in postponed games (the second game of the twin bill)...Last season Lynchburg had seven doubleheaders...They swept one, were swept once, and split the other five...
FLY LIKE PAPER: During the seven-game homestand the Hillcats averaged just 2.1 runs per game (15 runs in seven games played)...In their four losses Lynchburg has plated just four combined runs...The Cats plated just four runs in the three games against Kinston, and only one of those runs was earned...
LOST THAT SPARK: Entering tonight Lynchburg has lost four straight series openers...After starting the season 8-1 in series openers, the Hillcats are just 4-7 since...
CHEW ON THIS BIG LEAGUER: RHP Edinson Volquez made his second rehab appearance with Lynchburg last night after he made his 2010 debut last Saturday night with the Hillcats and tossed three scoreless innings...In game one last night he tossed five scoreless innings and allowed just one infield hit in picking up the win as a Hillcat...In his first outing donning the Green & Gold he allowed the first two batters of the game to get base hits, then set down the next nine in order before his night came to a close...In 2008 he was the Reds' lone representative in the National League All-Star game...He was 17-6 with a 3.21 ERA with 206 strikeouts in 196 innings...The righty last threw June 1, 2009 for the Reds against St. Louis...He missed the rest of last season and had reconstructive elbow surgery August 3...Volquez was 4-2, with a 4.35 ERA in nine starts with Cincinnati last year...On April 20, Volquez was suspended for 50 games for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance in violation of Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program...
HEADIN' TO THE HILLS: UTIL Brodie Greene was promoted to Lynchburg from Rookie Billings today...The former Texas A&M Aggie was the fourth round selection of the Reds in this years draft...This season he batted .395 with 14 homers and 55 RBI in 65 games this season with the Aggies...Greene was a second-team All-Big 12 selection and in his college days he played every defensive position except catcher and first base...
BIG TOP PUCKETT: UTIL Cody Puckett went a combined 3-for-6 with a double, a homer, two RBI and a run scored in the doubleheader last night...In his four games at the top of the order he is a combined 7-for-14 (.500) with two doubles, three home runs, five RBI and five runs scored...Last season he batted lead-off just three times, all while playing for Dayton...In his three years as a professional Puckett is batting .345 (45-for-129) with ten doubles, nine homers, 25 RBI and 30 runs in 35 games as a lead-off hitter...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHERS: RHP Brad Peacock was selected by Washington in the 41st round of the 2006 draft out of Palm Beach Central high school in Florida...He made his professional debut in 2007 with the GCL Nationals and went 1-1 with a 3.89 ERA in 13 games (seven starts)...In 2008 he pitched for both full-season Low-A Hagerstown and Short-Season Low-A Vermont...With Hagerstown he went 0-5 with a 9.09 ERA in eight starts with the Suns...In his time with Vermont he had a 4-7 mark with a 3.12 ERA in 14 starts...Last season he returned to Hagerstown and had a 5-8 record with a 4.05 ERA in 19 games (17 starts) before earning a promotion to Advanced-A...In eight games (seven starts) with Potomac he went 3-3 with a 4.34 ERA...This year he has returned to Potomac and has gone 1-8 with a 4.87 ERA in 13 games (12 starts)...Last season he made one start against Lynchburg...He allowed three runs (two earned) in six innings and took a no-decision in a game the Nationals eventually won 3-2 in 11 innings...This season he has made three starts, including his last, against the Hillcats and has gone a combined 0-2 with 6.75 ERA (12 earned runs in 16 innings)...
