Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WILMINGTON, DE (JUNE 18, 2010) - Logan Johnson drove in six runs and the Dash overpowered the Blue Rocks for a 10-4 comeback win at Frawley Stadium on Friday night. Winston cut its magic number to clinch the Southern Division first half title to one game, as second-place Salem kept pace with a 3-2 win over the Kinston in 11 innings. Winston-Salem can clinch a playoff spot with one win or one Red Sox loss.

The Dash (43-25) lost the first game of the day, a continuation of Sunday's suspended game. The teams started playing in the top of the fourth with Wilmington leading 6-0. Each team scored one run in the early game and the Blue Rocks won 7-1.

In game two, Wilmington (30-38) got off to a quick start against Dash starter Nate Jones. Eric Hosmer reached base on a bloop single with two outs in the first inning and Jamie Romak followed with a two-run home run to right. Wilmington added another in the second inning on a Patrick Norris RBI double to push the Rocks lead to 3-0.

Winston responded with a flurry in the third against Tim Melville (2-7). Brandon Short hit a home run to center on the first pitch of the inning to get the Dash on the board. Eduardo Escobar and Ozzie Lewis singled ahead of Johnson, who swatted a three-run homer to right field to catapult Winston-Salem to a 4-3 lead. It was Johnson's third home run of the season and the team's first in nearly a week.

The Blue Rocks tied the game at four in the bottom of the inning on Salvador Perez' RBI sacrifice fly.

The game stayed even until the fifth, when Lewis pummeled a 1-1 pitch over the centerfield wall for a two-run home run. Lewis' last homer came almost exactly one month ago, in the 12th inning of the Dash's 20-inning 4-3 win over Myrtle Beach on May 19.

The Dash blew the game open with four runs in the sixth inning against reliever James Thompson. Escobar hit an RBI double and Thompson walked the next two batters to load the bases. Johnson cleared them with a three-run double to center to extend the Winston lead to six.

Dan Remenowsky pitched two scoreless innings to preserve the win for Jones (5-2). Melville suffered the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits in five innings.

Johnson became the second Dash player this season to have a six-RBI game this season. Justin Greene drove in six runs on May 2, also in a game at Wilmington.

Jon Gilmore went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored to extend his hitting streak to 18 games. It is the longest hit streak of the season for Gilmore, who had two other streaks of 15 games or more this season.

The crowd of 7,369 was the largest that the Dash has played in front of this season and the third-largest in Frawley Stadium history.

Winston goes for the series victory on Saturday night when LHP Charlie Leesman (7-3, 5.37) opposes LHP Buddy Baumann (2-0, 2.27) in a 6:05 p.m. start. The audio broadcast begins at 5:45 on www.wsdash.com.
