TONIGHT'S GAMES:

The Hillcats continue an eight-game road trip with a doubleheader against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at Coastal Federal Field...Last night, Lynchburg battled their way to an 11-9 victory over Myrtle Beach in 14 innings...The Cats trailed by 3 runs with two outs and the bases empty in the ninth before rallying...With the win, the Cats maintain a 1.0-game lead over Wilmington for first place in the Northern Division...Interestingly, all four Northern Division squads are seperated by a total of 4.0-games in the standings ... Currently, every team in the division posts a losing record...The only time a team advanced to the CL post-season without an above .500 record was in 1985...The Winston-Salem Spirits captured the Southern Division first-half crown with a record of 35-35...Lynchburg is in the midst of playing 15 of their last 19 games in the first half on the road...They are 3-2 to begin that stretch...In addition, all 19 games are against Southern Division squads...The Cats are 9-16 against the Southern Division this season...

TONIGHT'S OPPONENTS

- Payano, 23, is a 5-11, 150-pound left-hander signed by Atlanta as a free agent on 2/25/00. The Dominican native had just one career appearance in full-season professional baseball prior to this season. He began the season in Rome (A, SAL) and compiled a 2-3 record with a 2.77 ERA (26.0 ip, 19 h, 9 r, 8 er, 10 bb, 34 k) in 10 appearances. In his only appearance with Myrtle Beach, he went 3.0 innings and allowed 2 runs at Potomac. He made his professional debut in 2001, going 0-0 with an 8.41 ERA in the Dominican Summer League.

- Morton, 22, is a 6-4, 190-pound right-hander selected by Atlanta in the 3rd round of the 2002 draft out of Joel Barlow (CT) HS. The Fleminton, NJ native compiled a 5-9 record with a 5.20 ERA (26 g, 22 gs, 124.2 ip, 124 h, 84 r, 72 er, 62 bb, 86 k) in Rome (A, SAL). He finished strong and earned August Pitcher of the Month honors for the Rome Braves as he led starting pitchers with a 2.25 ERA (28.0 ip/7 er) and held opponents to a .176 average. Entering this season, he had a career 15-30 mark with a 4.90 ERA.

- Morton has gone 0-1 with a 9.90 ERA in 2 G, 2 GS vs. LYN in 2006 (10.0 ip, 16 h, 11 r, 11 er, 4 bb, 8 k, .381)

NEWS AND NOTES

The Hillcats overcame a deficit when trailing after five innings for the second time in as many nights yesterday...The team is 3-25 in such situations this season...Last night's 14-inning affair was the longest Hillcats game since 6/22/04 versus Kinston...That contest lasted 15 frames, and was won by the Cats 6-5...The longest game in Hillcats history was an 18-inning marathon against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in 1999...Lynchburg lost that game on the Grand Strand 4-2, during the Pelicans inaguaral season...INF Brian Bixler became the first Hillcats player to amass two HRs in a game last night...In addition, the shortstop has reached base safely in 43 of his last 44 games, going 54-159, .340-4-26 over that stretch...The Hillcats are in sole possession of first place for just the fourth day this season...
