The first two batters of the game came around to score for the Frederick Keys Tuesday night, and it was enough as the Keys held on to beat Salem 2-1.
Salem scored their lone run of the game on a Francisco Caraballo sacrifice fly ball in the first inning.
Avalanche RHP Chad Reineke was the tough luck loser working seven innings, allowing one earned run to fall to 5-5.
Salem stranded the tying runner at third in each the seventh and eighth innings.
The rubber match of the three-game series is Wednesday, June 7th at 7:07 PM. It will be "Feed Your Face Night" presented by Budweiser as all fans can purchase a $10 all-you-can-eat ticket.
For tickets call the Avalanche Ticket Office at 540-389-3333.
