TONIGHT'S GAME:

The Hillcats embark on a seven day, eight-game road trip with the first of four against the Winston-Salem Warthogs ...Yesterday, the Hillcats garnered a double-digit run total for the second time in three games during a 12-4 rout of the Potomac Nationals...Lynchburg has won six of their last eight games...With the win, the Cats moved to within 0.5-games of both Wilmington and Potomac for first place in the Northern Division ...All four Northern Division squads are seperated by a total of 1.5-games in the standings ... Currently, every team in the division posts a losing record...The only time a team advanced to the CL post-season without an above .500 record was in 1985...The Winston-Salem Spirits captured the Southern Division first-half crown with a record of 35-35... Beginning tonight, Lynchburg will play 15 of their last 19 games in the first half on the road...In addition, all 19 games are against Southern Division squads...The Cats will not playing another Northern Division foe until June 29th (23 games)...

TONIGHT'S OPPONENT

- Whisler, 23, is a 6-5, 240-pound left-hander selected by Chicago (AL) in the second round of the 2004 draft out of UCLA. The Indiana native made his pro debut in 2004 with Kannapolis (A, SAL) appearing as both a position player and pitcher. Upon promotion on 8/16 to Winston-Salem, he went 2-1, with a 3.38 ERA (26.2 ip, 17 h, 10 r, 10 er, 7 bb, 13 k). Last season he went 4-9 with a 6.73 ERA in 26 appearances, 21 starts with Winston-Salem. In 2002, he was rated as the top prospect in the Cape Cod Summer League by Baseball America. In addition to pitching at UCLA, Whisler batter .303 with 34 HRs and 129 RBIs on the Westwood campus. In his initial professional campaign he batted 11-28, .289-1-5 in 11 games with the Intimidators.

NEWS AND NOTES

The Hillcats went 15-14 in May, the fourth highest winning total for the team in the month in franchise history...Their 2002 counterparts set the franchise record for wins in May, going 25-6...The Hillcats have scored 43 runs in their last 5 games (8.6/game), going 4- 1 over the stretch...In addition, the team has homered in 5 consecutive games for the first time this season...1B Steve Pearce hit his 15th homerun of the season yesterday...That total is tied for the second highest in all of minor league baseball...Albuquerque's Scott Seabol leads the minors with 16 long balls...OF Nyjer Morgan was ejected in the 4th inning yesterday for arguing with the home plate umpire...It is just the second ejection the Hillcats have had this season....Morgan had his 21-game hit streak come to an end in Lynchburg's 13-4 loss on Tuesday... He went 0-for-4 in the setback...Morgan hit 30-80, .375-0-8 during the streak...It was the second longest streak in Hillcats history (see graphic below)...The longest hit streak in Hillcats history is 22 games, amassed by Josh Bonifay in 2002...Bonifay batted .424 (39-92) during his franchise-best hit streak...He also reached base safely in 41 consecutive games that summer...The longest hit streak in the Carolina League this season was Brian Barton's 22-gamer for Kinston...The longest hit streak in Carolina League history is 31 games, accomplished by Martinsville's Pat Cooper in 1948...
