MYRTLE BEACH S.C. - The sale of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans from Capitol Broadcasting Company to Myrtle Beach Pelicans LP was finalized last night. The thorough and meticulous process by which the franchise changed hands began in January and concluded yesterday. The new ownership group, headed by Chuck Greenberg, will lead the Class-A, Carolina League affiliates of the Atlanta Braves into the future.

"We are thrilled to have completed the purchase of the Pelicans and look forward to a dynamic and exciting future in Myrtle Beach. We thank Capitol Broadcasting for the wonderful job they did in establishing the franchise and we are honored to have the opportunity to build off of the successful foundation they have established," said Greenberg.

The new ownership group is managed by the same management team, Greensons Baseball, that operates two minor league baseball franchises in Pennsylvania, the Altoona Curve (AA-Pittsburgh Pirates) of the Eastern League and the State College Spikes (A-St. Louis Cardinals) of the New York-Penn League. Since Greensons Baseball took over operation of the Altoona Curve, the Curve has watched record breaking numbers of fans walk through the gates at Blair County Ballpark. They have also been instrumental in setting sponsorship and corporate sales records. The Curve is now one of the most respected franchises in Minor League Baseball thanks in large part to the management team headed by Greenberg, the President and Managing Partner, and Todd Parnell, the G.E.R.T "Guy Everyone Reports To." The State College Spikes are preparing to begin their inaugural season in the NYPL.

"Myrtle Beach is one of the premier markets in all of minor league baseball. We will bring the same aggressive, innovative, and fun loving approach to the Pelicans that has worked so well in Altoona. We have no doubt that within a short time, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans will be considered one of the signature franchises in all of Minor League baseball. We can't wait to get started," added Greenberg.

The National Association of Professional Baseball, the Carolina League, the City of Myrtle Beach and Horry County, S.C., along with the Atlanta Braves and Major League Baseball all had to give their stamp of approval for the ownership to transfer from Capitol Broadcasting to Myrtle Beach Pelicans LP. The new owners take over a franchise in Myrtle Beach that is currently in its 8th year of operation on the Grand Strand.

On Thursday night the Pelicans will play a doubleheader at Potomac starting at 6:05 pm. The teams will start game one of the twinbill with two outs in the top of the 5th inning with the Pelicans on top 4-1, finishing a rain-shortened game from May 14th. Fans can listen to all of the action on ESPN Radio 93.9 FM, 93.7 FM, and 1050 AM "The Team." The Pelicans return to Coastal Federal Field on Monday, June 5th when they kick off a three-game series against the Lynchburg Hillcats (Pittsburgh Pirates) at 7:02 pm.
