TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA- Iowa Stars Center Joel Lundqvist and the PlanetUSA AHL All-Stars defeated the Canadian AHL All-Stars by the score of 7-6 at the 2007 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic in Toronto, Ontario on Monday evening.
A native of Are, Sweden, Lundqvist was held scoreless in the game but did help PlanetUSA win the Skills Competition on Sunday evening. Even though he lost his individual heat by .106 of a second, his time of 14.659 seconds did help PlanetUSA win the team average portion of the Rbk Hockey Fastest Skater Competition. The first-year North American professional contributed to PlanetUSA winning the Rbk Hockey Pass and Shoot portion of the Skills Competition. He also took part in the CCM Vector Breakaway Relay against Bridgeport Sound Tigers netminder Wade Dubielewicz (doo-BLUE-itz).
The 24-year-old Lundqvist has appeared in nine games for the NHL's Dallas Stars and notched his first NHL point, a goal, against Miikka Kiprusoff and the Calgary Flames on January 17th. Playing in 40 games with Iowa, he leads the team with 38 points, including a team-high 22 assists: 40(16/22/38).
Last season, Iowa's Junior Lessard notched the game-winning goal for the Canadian AHL All-Stars in a 9-4 win in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The 2007 AHL All-Star Game will re-air on the Mediacom Connections Channel at 8 AM on Tuesday, January 30th.
The game was witnessed by a crowd of 7,839 fans at Ricoh Coliseum as well as national television audiences in Canada on Rogers Sportsnet and the United States on a series of regional networks.
