Binghamton Senators News Release

LAST WEEK: The Senators (12-26-2-5, 31 pts.) were 0-3 last week, including a 4-3 overtime loss to the Rochester Americans on Saturday night at the Arena.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 24th @ BRIDGEPORT (1-4 L):

The Sound Tigers held the B-Sens offense in check at Harbor Yard. Jeff Tambellini buried his team-leading 21st marker late in the opening period, as the Sound Tigers capitalized on a Binghamton tripping penalty. Winger GRANT POTULNY answered back, netting his 10th goal of the year midway through the second period. CORY PECKER and RYAN VESCE assisted on the B-Sens' power-play tally. Bridgeport center Eric Boguniecki responded with 10th tally of the season late in the second period to give the Sound Tigers a 2-1 advantage. Steve Regier ended the Senators bid for a comeback, as the winger netted a short-handed tally at 16:44 of the third period. Bridgeport added a late empty-netter to make it a 4-1 final. KELLY GUARD made 31 saves in the losing effort. Wade Dubielewicz had 30 saves for the Sound Tigers.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 26th @ WORCESTER (1-2 L):

For the second straight game, the B-Sens were held to one goal. ANDREW EBBETT staked Binghamton to the early 1-0 lead, as the center buried his tenth marker of the year. The B-Sens took full advantage of a 5-on-3 power play, as the Sharks were called for consecutive hooking penalties. Worcester responded as defenseman Scott Ferguson buried a power-play goal. Ironically, the Sharks man-advantage came as EBBETT sat in the box on a hooking call. With four minutes remaining in the opening stanza, and the B-Sens on the power play, Sharks defenseman Patrick Traverse buried the game-winner past netminder JEFF GLASS. Worcester goalie Dimitri Patzold held the B-Sens scoreless over the final two periods, stopping 23 shots. GLASS would also hold the Sharks scoreless over the final two periods, and collect 25 saves in the losing effort.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 27th vs. ROCHESTER (3-4 OTL)

The B-Sens' bid for a comeback victory over nemesis Rochester was thwarted by winger Michael Ryan. Rochester capitalized on a NEIL PETRUIC boarding call early in the first period. Drew Stafford smashed a one-timer from the high slot past netminder KELLY GUARD to make a 1-0 game. Three minutes later, Drew Larman buried the second power-play tally of the night for the Amerks to extend the lead to 2-0. Binghamton struck back at 17:18 of the first; as RYAN VESCE found fellow Cornell grad CHARLIE COOK slashing toward the Amerks crease. VESCE passed from the deep right corner through the crease and COOK tapped it home past the left side of netminder Adam Dennis. After a scoreless second period, winger CORY PECKER buried an even-strength tally to knot the game at 2 apiece. ANDY HEDLUND'S shot bounced off the chest protector of Dennis, as PECKER circled from the back of the cage to scoop the loose puck into the right corner of the net. Leading scorer JEFF HEEREMA gave the Senators their first lead of the night, as the winger scooped up the rebound after a GRANT POTULNY shot and snapped a wrist shot past Dennis from the left post. Michael Ryan gave the Amerks new life, scoring the game-tying goal with just 45 seconds remaining in regulation. Ryan didn't waste much time, scoring the game-winner just 50 seconds into overtime to boost the Amerks past the Senators for the seventh time this season. GUARD had 28 saves in the losing effort, while CORY PECKER collected a goal and an assist for the B-Sens.

THIS WEEK: The Senators return to the ice on Friday, Feb. 2, as they head up I-88 to take on the Albany River Rats at 7:00 p.m. The B-Sens return home to host Springfield on Sunday, Feb. 4, with a special 3:05 p.m. game time.
