Amerks return from break on Friday

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans forwards Clarke MacArthur and Drew Stafford will compete in the American Hockey League All-Star game tonight at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto. MacArthur, who is competing for the Canadian AHL All-Stars, won the Rbk Hockey Accuracy Shooting event at the AHL All-Star Skills Competition last night. MacArthur hit four targets with just five shots to win the event. Stafford is competing with the PlanetUSA AHL All-Stars. Tonight's All-Star contest will be televised live at 7:00 p.m. on Time Warner SportsNet Channel 26.

Following the AHL All-Star break, the Amerks will return to action on Friday, February 2nd, as they take on the Toronto Marlies at The Blue Cross Arena. Fans can pick up Wendy's Buy-one get one free ticket vouchers for the game at any participating Wendy's Restaurant. The game is also a College Student Discount Night. College students who show their student ID at the Blue Cross Arena Box Office will receive a regular $16.00 ticket for $8.00. The 7:35 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 Networks, and will be televised live on Time Warner SportsNet Channel 26.

The Amerks are 2-1 this season and 6-5 all-time against the Marlies. Toronto is 3-7-0 in its last 10 and has lost two straight. Center Erik Westrum leads the Marlies in points with 48 (19+29), while Justin Pogge and Jean-Francois Racine have split time between the pipes. Pogge is 7-14-0 with a 3.23 goals against average and a .894 save percentage. In 23 games played, Racine is 8-11-3 with a 3.29 GAA and a .888 SV%.

The Amerks are winners of their last four games and nine of their last 10. With a record of 32-12-1-0 and 65 points, Rochester stands first in the Western Conference and third in the AHL, six points back of league-leading Norfolk. Forward Michael Ryan has registered seven points (4+3) in his last three games, including the game-tying and game-winning goals in the Amerks' thrilling 4-3 overtime win over Binghamton on January 27th. Ryan has 12 points (4+8) in his last seven games. MacArthur leads the Amerks and is fifth among league leaders with 55 points (17+38). His 38 assists are also good enough for third in the AHL. Center Janis Sprukts is currently ninth among league rookies with 36 points (10+26), while Stafford is following close behind, with 35 points (18+17), which is good enough for 10th among AHL rookies.

On January 24th, defenseman Mike Card scored his first professional goal as the Amerks defeated the Grand Rapids Griffins by a score of 5-4 at The Blue Cross Arena. Craig Anderson made 44 saves in net to pick up his 16th win of the season. Marek Zagrapan and Michael Ryan contributed a goal and two assists each, while Martin Lojek (1+0), Daniel Paille (1+0) and Card (1+1) rounded out the Amerks scoring.

Two nights later, Craig Anderson made 32 saves in net and Stafford registered a goal and two assists, as the Rochester Americans again defeated the Grand Rapids Griffins, 5-1, at The Blue Cross Arena. A crowd of 8,947 watched as Stafford (1+2), Zagrapan (1+1), Sprukts (1+0), Andrej Sekera (1+0) and Ryan (1+1) combined to produce the Amerks' five goals, while MacArthur chipped in three assists on the night.

On January 27th, Ryan netted two goals, including the game-winner just 50 seconds into sudden-death overtime to give the Rochester Americans a 4-3 win over the Binghamton Senators at the Broome County Arena. The win was the Amerks' third straight and their ninth in their last 10 games.
