Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton (Low A -- Midwest League)

@ Clinton 5, Beloit 2

Struggling Clinton starter Kyle Rogers (16.43 ERA) had his best outing of the year, but still lasted only 3.2 innings as the big right hander allowed two runs on four hits and four walks before giving the ball to Kevin Altman (1-0; 4.50) who blanked Beloit on one hit over the next 4.1, fanning three along the way.

The LumberKings put up three in the fifth as Andrew Wishy led off with a walk and came around to score on Billy Susdorf single. Tug Hulett (.364 / .512 / .485) capped the rally with an RBI single after Jim Fasano, who followed Wishy with another walk, scored on a Casey Benjamin single.

Clinton managed just five singles all night and leadoff man Cameron Coughlan was the only man to reach twice, with a single and a walk in four trips.

Baseball America featured Clinton righthander Eric Hurley in a Daily Dish piece, noting that the 19-year-old has regained his high school velocity. Hurley, who stands at 3-0, 1.06 in three starts, yielding only 10 hits and three walks while punching out 19 in 17 innings, is sitting at 92-93 and touching 96, offset by an improving slider and change. Hurley's fastball had lost some life last summer after being drafted.
