Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - The LumberKings dropped the opener of a three-game set with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers by a score of 12-5. The 12 runs are a season-high allowed by Clinton in 2012.

Wisconsin starter Matt Miller worked seven strong innings as he earned his first win of the season, improving to 1-3. The right-hander allowed five runs on five hits and recorded seven strikeouts.

Wisconsin put single tallies on the board in the third and fourth innings off Clinton starter Cameron Hobson. The LumberKings got on the board after Jamal Austin tripled to start the fourth and was knocked in on a sacrifice fly by Steve Baron. The next batter, Jabari Blash, blasted a two-run home run to right center to give the LumberKings a 3-2 lead.

The lead didn't last long as Wisconsin scored two runs in the top of the fifth to take back the lead at 5-4, and soon after that the route was on. The Timber Rattlers scored twice in the sixth, twice in the seventh and four more times in the eighth.

Hobson struck out a season-high seven batters but he was saddled with another loss, dropping his record to 0-5 on the season.

The two teams play game two of the series tomorrow night at Ashford University Field with first pitch at 6:30 PM. A couple of right-handers take the hill as Ambioris Hidalgo (1-2, 5.40) goes for the LumberKings and Drew Gagnon (1-0, 0.64) gets the call for the Timber Rattlers.
