Bangor Lumberjacks News Release

Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks have re-signed catcher Brad Hargreaves the Northeast League club announced today.

Hargreaves, a native of Cincinnati, was originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 49th round of the 1997 draft. The Okaloosa-Walton product spent four and a half years in their organization before signing with the Adirondack Lumberjacks partway through the 2001 season.

Brad hit .266 for the Lumberjacks last season, including his first professional home run. However, it's his defense and durability that makes Brad one of the best catchers in the league. Following Travis Silver's retirement at the end of last season, Hargreaves was left as the only catcher on the Jacks roster after the roster deadline. Hargreaves caught every inning of every game leading up to Game 5 of the Northern League East Conference Finals.

"Brad is a prototypical catch and throw type of a guy. He's a winner behind the plate and has the ability to call a great game and evaluate opposing hitter's weaknesses which makes my job a lot easier," said Lumberjacks Manager Kash Beauchamp. "Brad is a very good situational hitter and he figures out ways to get the job done on offense."

This will be the 25 year-old Hargreaves' seventh year in professional baseball.

The Lumberjacks open the 2003 campaign on the road against the Allentown (PA) Ambassadors on Thursday, May 22, but return to Bangor for the home opener on Friday, May 30 at 7 PM against the New Jersey Jackals at Mahaney Diamond.
