New Haven County Cutters News Release

Bangor, ME- The New Haven County Cutters (27-29) fell to two games under the .500 mark for the first time all season on Tuesday night, falling to the Bangor Lumberjacks 3-1. The Cutters are now 2-7 in the first half of the season while the Lumberjacks improve to 7-2.

After the Lumberjacks took a 2-0 lead in the third on a Donnie Ross RBI and a sacrifice fly by Mark Burke, New Haven cut the deficit in half in the fourth on a Darren Ciraco solo home run off Bangor starter Clayton Andrews. Earlier in the game, Ciraco led off the second inning with base hit extending his hitting streak to fourteen games.

Bangor regained their two run advantage in the fifth as right fielder Jose Garcia scored from third on a wild pitch from New Haven starter Tony Harden giving the Lumberjacks a 3-1 lead.

In the eighth the Cutters failed to capitalize on a golden opportunity against the Bangor bullpen. Right hander John Boker relieved Andrews and walked the only two batters he faced. Boker was then was replaced by J.C. Huguet who walked Jose Mateo to load the bases with nobody out. Hector Lebron was the next batter and hit a soft liner back to Huguet who quickly threw to first to double up Mateo. After an intentional walk to Darren Ciraco, Huguet struck out Adam Shorsher to end the inning and the threat.

Bangor starter Clayton Andrews went seven innings allowing one run on five hits to improve his record to 6-4. Lance Calmus pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his fourth save of the season. Cutters' starter Tony Harden (3-3) went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing three runs on six hits and took the loss.

After every Friday night home game this summer, a fireworks show will light up the New Haven sky. "Win Jonathan Fleisig's Money" is during every Saturday Game at Yale Field where fans can actually win money from the owner of the Cutters for watching and enjoying a night at the ballpark. Every Sunday is a WEBE 108 Family FUNday with plenty of entertainment to keep all ages entertained.
