
Lugnuts Hold off Lake County on Sunday

Lake County Captains News Release
(Lansing, MI)- Lansing scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to re-take the lead and went on to win the ballgame by 5-4 over the Captains on Sunday. In the inning, Lansing used three hits, a Captains error and a sacrifice fly to take the lead, and halted the Captains momentum. The loss snapped a five game Captains winning streak.
Lansing scored first. In the bottom of the first inning, Derrick Loveless walked and later scored from second on a base hit from Rowdy Tellez. The score was 1-0 Lansing after one full inning. Lansing added another run in the third inning. Chaz Frank doubled and scored on a single from Derrick Loveless and the score was 2-0 after three innings.
Lake County got on the scoreboard in the top half of the fourth inning. Clint Frazier walked and raced home to score on a two out double from Nellie Rodriguez. The score was 3-1. Lake County took the lead in the top of the fifth inning. With two outs and a runner on, Brian Ruiz blasted his third home run of the season and the Captains had the lead 3-2.
Lansing added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the 5-3 lead. With the bases loaded, Derrick Loveless drew a walk and the insurance run scored. The Captains cut into the lead in the top of the seventh inning. Sicnarf Loopstok tripled to left field and scored on an RBI single from Grant Fink and the score was 5-4. The one run difference was the Final.
LHP Anderson Polanco (3-0) was the starting pitcher for Lake County. Polanco did not get a decision. Anderson pitched four and one third innings and allowed six hits, three runs, three earned runs, two walks and he struck out five. Alexis Paredes pitched two and one third innings and allowed two runs, one earned run on five hits. Paredes hit one batter, walked two and struck out one. Paredes (3-5) took the loss. Robbie Aviles pitched the final one and one third innings for the Captains.
RHP Brad Allen (6-5) started the game for the Lugnuts. Allen pitched six innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits, three walks and he struck out four. Allen allowed the homer to Ruiz, but earned the win. Lansing used two pitchers in relief. The save went to Brady Dragmire his fourth of the season. Dragmire pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
Lake County stay on the road for a six game road trip. On Monday the Captains will continue a three-game series with the Lansing Lugnuts. The Captains will start RHP Dace Kime (7-13, 4.85) and the Lugnuts will counter with LHP Matt Dermody (4-5, 4.43). First Pitch will be at 7:05 PM from Cooley Law School Stadium in Lansing, Michigan.
