Kane County Cougars News Release
BURLINGTON, Iowa- The Cougars did not go down without a fight, but still saw a 13-game winning streak come to an end with a 2-1 loss over the Burlington Bees from Community Field. Burlington's (27-35, 65-66) victory on Sunday was the first win over the Cougars (41-21, 86-46) all season.
Down 2-0 in the ninth, Daniel Lockhart reached on a hustling infield single. Carlos Penalver put the Cougars on the board for the first time with an RBI double to cut Burlington's lead in half. Jeffrey Baez walked to put the go-ahead run on the bases, but Shawn Dunston Jr.'s long fly out put an end to the ball game.
The Cougars received five strong innings from Daury Torrez (11-6), but the right hander suffered the loss by surrendering two unearned runs in the fifth frame.
Harrison Cooney (9-7) picked up the win with five shutout innings and stranding six Cougars on the bases. Ben Carlson knotched his 13th save despite allowing the Cougars' only run.
The Cougars and Bees continue their series on Monday with a pitching matchup of Paul Blackburn (9-4, 3.27) against Daniel Hurtado (2-2, 2.08). First pitch from Community Field is scheduled at 2:00 p.m. The game can be heard on AM 1280 WBIG and kccougars.com.
