LANSING, Mich. - The Lake County Captains (17-19, 44-60) held the Lansing Lugnuts (23-13, 61-42) at bay, taking the finale of the series 6-3 on Monday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.

The series loss is the first for the Lugnuts since their first series in July, at Dow Diamond against the Great Lakes Loons, going 19-9 since in a span of eight series.

Marcus Knecht started the game with a bang, knocking a two-run triple off the wall in left field off Captains starter Kirk Wetmore (Win, 3-0), but the Lugs offense would be stymied from there.

The Captains, meanwhile, would pour six runs on the board in the second and third innings off Lugs starter Tyler Powell (Loss, 2-2), with a two-run double by Kevin Fontanez, and an RBI double from Carlos Moncrief.

Lugnuts relievers Sam Strickland, Dustin Antolin, and Tyler Powell worked six innings of scoreless relief, but the Captains bullpen matched them pitch for pitch, shutting Lansing down for the final four frames.

Knecht finished 2-for-4 in the game, but the Lugs only received two other hits, singles by Matt Nuzzo and Garis Pena.

Lansing southpaw Egan Smith (5-4, 3.56) starts a four-game against the South Bend Silver Hawks right-hander Bradin Hagens (6-4, 3.89), a 7:05 p.m. Dollar Deal Day at Cooley Law School Stadium. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
