Bandits Shut Out Cougars 3-0, Win Series

The Quad Cities River Bandits held the Kane County Cougars to just three hits Monday to secure a series victory with a 3-0 win in front of 2,182 fans at Modern Woodmen Park.

With the win, the River Bandits take sole position of first place in the Western Division and have won seven of its last eight series.

Bandit starter Anthony Ferrara (W, 10-5) went seven innings and allowed just two hits while striking out six batters on his way to his 10th victory of the season. Ferrara was relieved by Cale Johnson who allowed just one hit. Aiden Lucas (S, 10) came in to finish the game and pitched one hitless inning, striking out one, to pick up the save.

Quad Cities opened up its scoring in the first inning when Cody Stanley (1-for-4) hit an RBI-double to score Kolten Wong (1-for-2). Though that proved to be all they would need, the Bandits scored again in the third when Oscar Taveras (1-for-4) doubled home Ronny Gil (2-for-3).

Wong scored again to put the Bandits up 3-0 when he crossed the plate on a fielding error in eighth.

The River Bandits take to the road Tuesday to open an eight-game road trip. Bandit lefty Ryan Copeland (3-1, 3.52) will oppose Kernels right-hander P.J. Jang (1-2, 4.10) when they begin a four-game set with the Kernels. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. at Perfect Game Field in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
