July 14, 2019 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
Bowie starter Zac Lowther carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and the Baysox bats, led by three Yusniel Diaz doubles, spotted him a four-run lead in a 4-2 Bowie win over the Akron RubberDucks on Sunday at Canal Park.
Turning Point
With a 1-0 lead entering the top of the fourth inning, the Baysox added two runs in the frame coming on a Martin Cervenka sacrifice fly and a T.J. Nichting run-scoring single to extend the lead to 3-0.
Mound Presence
Akron starter Jake Paulson grinded all game long and kept the RubberDucks in shouting distance by allowing four runs (three earned) over 6.2 innings, walking two and fanning six. Jared Robinson relieved Paulson in the seventh inning and stranded a runner at second base before throwing a scoreless eighth inning. Robert Broom threw a scoreless ninth in relief. Lowther's lone hit allowed came with two outs in the seventh inning when Akron outfielder Mitch Longo lined a single to left. The only baserunners to reach against Bowie's Lowther before the seventh inning came in the third inning when Andruw Monasterio reached on an error by Bowie shortstop Mason McCoy. Later that frame, Ernie Clement reached on a hit-by-pitch, however, both he and Monasterio were stranded. Monasterio again reached on an error, this one by third baseman Rylan Bannon in the fifth inning.
Duck Tales
Akron hitters managed three hits on the day, all coming in the seventh inning. After Longo broke up the no-hitter attempt with two outs, Nellie Rodriguez doubled to left to score Longo and cut the Bowie lead to 4-1. After a Monasterio walk, Alexis Pantoja hit an infield single to second baseman Jesmuel Valentin, who's throw from first was wild, allowing Rodriguez to score and make it 4-2.
