Montgomery Biscuits News Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After a devastating loss on Thursday, the Biscuits (17-25) rebounded in emphatic fashion on Friday, taking down the Birmingham Barons (19-22) on Star Wars Night at Regions Field, 8-0.
The Biscuits got things started immediately against Barons right-hander and White Sox number six prospect Dane Dunning (2-1), as the first three batters of the game reached base on an error, a hit-by-pitch, and a fielder's choice. Then Brandon Lowe stepped up and unloaded the bases with a three-run double off the right-center field wall to put Montgomery up, 3-0.
Later in the top of the first, Nathan Lukes would drive home Lowe with an RBI-single to extend that lead to 4-0. In the second, Lowe was at it again, swatting an RBI-single, which put the Biscuits up, 5-0. Lowe now leads the Southern League with 30 RBIs.
That's all the offense J.D. Martin (2-6) would need, as the knuckleballer had his stuff working all evening. The 35-year-old walked the first two batters of the game, but stranded runners at first and third on a nifty 1-6-3 inning ending double play, which sent the former Washington National on his way.
Martin would go 6.1 scoreless innings, scattering just four hits with the two walks and three strikeouts in his second win of the year. The victory was just the Biscuits' second in nine Martin starts.
Ryan Boldt added a run on a groundout in the seventh, and Jake Cronenworth knocked home another on an RBI-single in the eighth before the final run scored on a 6-4-3 double play with the bases loaded. Dalton Moats pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief, and R.J. Alaniz worked a scoreless ninth in his first game in over a month after being activated off the disabled list earlier in the day.
The Biscuits will try to make it two in a row on Saturday night when Zach Lee (5-1) takes on Spencer Adams (2-4) at 6:30 PM.
The Biscuits will continue their current 10-game road trip until they return home to Montgomery on May 29 when the Jackson Generals will be in town for Wings Fest and the Gathering of Eagles Celebration. The series will also feature Country Music Night featuring a T-Shirt Giveaway presented by WLWI on Thursday, May 31, Gump in the Gump featuring Greenbow Biscuits Jersey Auction and MAX Fireworks on Friday, June 1, and Flight Night featuring a C-130 Figurine Giveaway presented by AUM and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, June 2.
