
BayBears Devour Shrimp in Doubleheader Sweep

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, swept Friday's doubleheader with 4-2 and 3-1 wins over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
GAME ONE:
Trailing 2-0 in the sixth inning, the BayBears plated four runs over the final two frames. Michael Barash got the rally started with an RBI single, driving in his fourth run of the series. He later scored the go-ahead run on a Zach Gibbons two-out single.
Matt Thaiss added a solo home run in the seventh, his sixth long ball of the season. Thaiss has now hit a home run in six of the last eight series.
Jose Rodriguez (3-4) earned the win, allowing two runs on five hits in five innings. He matched his season-high with eight strikeouts. Pablo Lopez (0-2) notched a career-high 10 strikeouts in a loss for Jacksonville.
GAME TWO:
The BayBears (21-20) plated runs in each of the first two frames to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. Connor Justus hit an RBI single in the first, and Francisco Arcia scored on an errant pickoff attempt in the second. Jose Rojas scored a run of insurance on a Gibbons fielder's choice in the sixth.
Mobile's pitching staff only allowed one run on two hits in game two. Greg Mahle pitched a career-high four innings and gave up just one infield single. Adrian Almeida (1-0) earned his first Double-A win in relief, and Matt Custred notched a five-out save with four strikeouts.
Kolton Mahoney (2-3) took the loss for Jacksonville (17-25), giving up two runs, one earned, in a five-inning start.
The BayBears continue the six-game road series against Jacksonville Saturday at 5:35 p.m. CDT.
