July 19, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Louisville Bats News Release

BATS LOOK TO WIN THREE IN A ROW: The Louisville Bats travel to Syracuse to begin a four-game series against the Chiefs at NBT Bank Stadium. Louisville is coming off a series victory at Rochester, its third series win on the road this season. It was the Bats' first series win since taking two of three from Columbus at Huntington Park from June 25-27, with their first road series win of 2018 coming at Toledo from June 15-17.

AGAINST SYRACUSE: The Bats will face the Syracuse Chiefs for the first time since April, when they dropped two of three games at Louisville Slugger Field. Louisville's lone win came in the middle game, on Thunder At Slugger Day in front of a record crowd of 14,658. Last season, the Bats won the season series against the Chiefs by a 4-3 advantage, taking two of three at home and splitting a four-game series at Syracuse.

SHUTOUT WIN: Louisville defeated Rochester by a 2-0 score in the series finale on Wednesday night, just the second shutout win for the Bats this season. Their first shutout win came in a 5-0 home defeat of the Durham Bulls on May 27. The Bats are now 2-2 in shutout games, by far the fewest (4) shutout games in the International League, with Durham playing in the second-fewest (9).

REHAB STATS: Right-hander Homer Bailey was excellent in his seventh rehab appearance (sixth start) with Louisville this season, going 7.0 scoreless innings, giving up four hits, three walks while striking out three on 110 pitches (67 strikes). He's the fifth MLB rehabber to pitch for the Bats in 2018, along with RHP Anthony DeSclafani (5/25, 30), LHP Brandon Finnegan (4/9) and RHPs David Hernandez (4/20, 23, 25) and Kevin Shackelford (4/22), who have now combined for 14 rehab outings for Louisville this season. Rehabbers have compiled a 6.00 ERA, with 38 earned runs in 57.0 innings on the mound. The Bats are 5-9 as a club when a pitcher makes a rehab outing, winning three of Bailey's last four appearances.

QUACK CAME BACK: Right-handed closer Kevin Quackenbush pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his 14th save in a Bats uniform this season, ranking second in the International League. He trails only Lehigh Valley's Pedro Beato with 24 saves. Wednesday night's save was his first save in the second half, giving up 7 earned runs in 1.2 innings for Louisville after pitching in the Triple-A All-Star Game on July 11.

P.E. IN A MONTH'S WORK: Since June 19, outfielder Phillip Ervin is batting .384 (33-for-86) with 13 runs, 5 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs, 29 RBI, 10 walks and 4 stolen bases. Ervin's 29 RBI since then ranks second in the IL to only Columbus' Eric Haase with 31 RBI. His .384 average in that span ranks second to only Toledo's Jacob Robson with a .394 average.

NATIONAL LEAGUE BASEBALL: Louisville's upcoming four-game seriesa against the top farm club of the Washington Nationals will mark the 23rd game of the season against an NL-affiliated club in the opener tonight. Coming into the series, LOU owns a 10-12 record against NL-affiliated teams and a 27-43 record against AL-affiliated teams.
