El Paso Diablos News Release

Shreveport, LA - For the second straight night the Diablos kept up but could not bring home a win as they fell 6-4 to the Shrevepor-Bossier Captains at Fair Grounds Field on Friday night. It is the eighth straight loss for El Paso

El Paso scored first as Arnoldo Ponce connected on his second home run of the season in the first inning. Jorge Alvarez tied up the ball game in the second on a home run of his own. Single runs in the fourth and fifth innings would give the Captains a two run lead. El Paso regained the lead in the sixth inning when Bryon Smith had a bases clearing double giving the Diablos a 4-3 lead. That lead would disappear the very next inning when the Captains came up with two, two out singles to take a 5-4 lead. They added one more run in the eighth inning when Alvarez had a two out single to bring a run home.

Aaron Kalb pitched into the sixth inning and allowed just three earned runs and earned a no decision. Kalb, who has struggled with control this season, walked just three with one of those being intentional while also striking out a season high five batters. El Paso's bull pen could not hold the lead again as the Diablos' bull pen now has just a 3-20 record this season. El Paso walked seven on the night with three of those walks being turned into runs. Richard Salazar (8-3) picked up his eighth win of the season and he has now collected half of his wins against the Daiblos. He went seven innings and allowed four runs on five hits.

El Paso managed just six hits in the game. Bryon Smith had his second straight good game at the plate as he collected half of the Diablos' hits going 3-3 with a walk and three RBI. Hector Bernal had a double and a walk and has now reached base safely in 22 straight games. The bottom of El Paso's line up really rough night as the bottom four in the Diablos line up goes 0-15 with just a walk.

The Diablos will try to bring their losing streak to an end on Saturday night. El Paso will send William Buzhardt (2-2, 7.67) to the mound against Cardoza Tucker (2-3, 4.85). Game time is set for 6:05. Fans can listen in by tuning into ESPN 1380 or online at www.diablos.com.
