St. Paul Saints News Release

With the race for a playoff spot heating up the St. Paul Saints went out and got a little speed signing outfielder and former Atlanta Brave first round draft pick, Josh Burrus.

The Saints acquired the reversionary rights for Burrus on June 24 from Sussex (Can-Am League) for a player to be named later and upon his recent release from the Detroit Tigers organization, and after playing for the Schaumburg Flyers of the Northern League, they signed the 26-year-old. Burrus was playing at Double-A Erie where he hit .207 with seven homers and 28 RBI in 59 games. For the Flyers he hit .252 with three homers and 10 RBI in 29 games. He went 0-3 with a walk, stolen base and a run scored in his first game as a Saint on Thursday night.

Burrus is no stranger to the American Association having played for the Lincoln Saltdogs in 2009 hitting .282 with 10 homers and 44 RBI in 94 games. In 383 at bats he scored 68 runs, had 21 doubles, three triples, was 36-45 in stolen bases with an on base percentage of .365 and a slugging percentage of .431.

In 2001 Burrus was a 1st round draft pick (29th overall) by the Braves in the June Amateur Draft and played seven seasons in the organization reaching Triple-A in 2005. He's had 10 or more steals in eight of 10 seasons he's played including a career high 36, at three different levels, in 2005.

The Saints roster is at the league maximum 22 players, nine pitchers and 13 position players.
