Worcester, MA (June 22, 2007) - LHP Rolando Viera allowed just one run in 6.2 innings on the hill and the Rox plated five runs in the sixth and seventh innings as they ended a four-game losing streak by beating the Worcester Tornadoes 7-2 in Worcester. RF Tony Gonzalez drove home two runs with a clutch two-out double in the sixth inning to give the Rox the lead, and they scored runs in each of the final four innings in the win. DH Guye Senjem had three doubles in the contest to lead the Rox offense. CF Joe Hough had two hits and an RBI. LF Jeremy Coronado had two hits and ran his hit streak to nine games.
Worcester led the game 1-0 after a two-out, third inning single by DH Yohanny Valera gave the Tornadoes the early lead. The Rox had an opportunity in the fourth inning with two runners in scoring position with one out, but Worcester starter RHP Reid Willett fanned two to escape trouble. In the sixth, Gonzalez stepped to the plate with the Rox in dire need of a big base hit. With two on and two outs, Gonzalez doubled off the wall in center, plating two, and giving the Rox a 2-1 lead on their first run-scoring hit since Sunday afternoon. The Rox scored three runs in the seventh off reliever Eddie Pena; 1B Francisco Lebron had a key run-scoring single.
The Rox added runs in the eighth on an RBI single by Hough and 3B Fredy De La Cruz in the ninth inning picked up his second RBI with a run scoring single, plating Senjem. Senjem finished 3-4 with three doubles and a run scored. The Rox had four extra base hits in the game, the first extra-base hits since Sunday.
Saturday evening at 7:05 in Worcester the Rox and Tornadoes square off with RHP Luis Carreras (5-0, 2.28 ERA) starting for Brockton and RHP Alex Pena (1-1, 7.67 ERA) starting for Worcester.
