New Haven County Cutters News Release
WEST HAVEN, CT - The Nashua Pride scored four times in the top of the eighth inning to break open a one-run game and defeat the New Haven County Cutters, 8-4, Friday night in the first of a four-game series at Historic Yale Field.
Leading 3-2 in the eighth, the Pride used two singles and a walk to load the bases and then cleared them when right fielder John Ramistella's two-out RBI single was misplayed in the outfield and allowed two more runs to score.
Centerfielder Richard Giannotti followed with a infield pop up that was dropped and allowed Ramistella to cross home, extending the Pride's lead to 7-2.
Cutters' third baseman Junior Zamora closed the gap to 7-4 in the bottom-half of the eighth with a two-run home run (5), his second in as many days.
Catcher Luis Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a home run (1) and two RBI.
Pride starter RHP Akira Okamoto (3-1) struck out nine in 7.0 innings and allowed two runs on five hits to collect the win.
Cutters' LHP Brian Brainer (0-1), in his first start of the year, was solid in 5.1 innings, yielding three runs on five hits in a losing effort.
Game two of the four-game series is set for Saturday. Game time is 7:05 pm.
