Fresno Falcons News Release

Fresno, Calif. - In their first game this season against a foe from outside the West Division, the Fresno Falcons defeated the Toledo Storm, 4-1, behind two goals from Jim Lorentz and 33 saves from goaltender Simon Lajeunesse in front of a crowd of 3,227 at Save Mart Center.

Lorentz opened the scoring 8:35 into the first period when he batted in a rebound for his first of the year from Mike Kiesman and John Wroblewski.

Fresno added to its 1-0 first period lead early in the second. Shawn Heaphy and Dan Tessier moved the play into the Toledo zone before the latter found Curtis Sheptak, who sent a slapshot past Storm goaltender Scott Fankhouser at 2:05. Lorentz then broke the game open with an unassisted, short-handed goal at the 6:34 mark of the middle period after poking the puck away from a Toledo d-man at the Fresno blue-line and finishing the ensuing break-away to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead.

After David Brisson slid home his first of the year just as a Fresno power play expired 12:25 into the third, the only thing left in doubt was whether Lajeunesse would capture his second shutout of the season. On the Storm's seventh power play of the game, they finally broke through. Andrew Oke beat the Falcons netminder to the blocker side as he cut into the low-slot by himself at 14:59 to spoil the shutout bid.

The victory is Fresno's second of the season and moves their record to 2-6-1 on the campaign. The club concludes an eight-game homestand on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Save Mart Center when the Victoria Salmon Kings arrive. Performing at the game will be Little E, the world's smallest Elvis tribute.

Tickets are on sale for as low as $8 per seat and may be purchased directly at Save Mart Center's box office and all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 485-TIXS (8497) or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
