Titans Hand Chiefs 3-2 Loss In Shootout, Again Brunelle scores clincher in shootout for the second time in five days

TRENTON, NJ (November 10, 2004) - For the second time in five days, the Trenton Titans and Johnstown Chiefs played to a 2-2 tie at the end of 60 minutes. And for the second time in five days the two teams finished the overtime period scoreless.

As if following a well-rehearsed script, Mathieu Brunelle skated to the puck in the final round of the game's shootout, with a chance to win the game - and delivered, again. In doing so, he gave Trenton a 3-2 win, and ensured the Titans sixth victory of the season, raising their record to a perfect 6-0-0.

While 3,611 fans had to sit through more than 65 minutes of play at Sovereign Bank Arena to see the game-winning goal, it took just 5:22 for them to witness the first score of the night. It came on a Titans power play - their only one of the night - after Johnstown was caught with too many men on the ice. Winger Phil Lewandowski his second goal of the season after sharp passing from B.J. Abel and Stephen Wood. With the goal the Titans held the game's first lead.

Trenton's offensive faltered, however, late in the first period and the Chiefs came alive. At the 11:07 mark, Chiefs' leading scorer Brent Kelly - who has scored all three of his goals on the season against Trenton - tied the game by deflecting a lose puck from the side of the net off the pads of Titans' goalie Chris Houle.

Neither team was able to mount a consistent offensive effort in the second frame. Johnstown tested Houle with ten shots, scoring once on a Mike James goal. Trenton, meanwhile, was shutout on just seven chances against Johnstown's David Cann - who managed 34 saves against the Titans - and closed the period trailing 2-1.

In the final frame, Trenton picked the up offensive intensity throwing 16 shots on Cann. In need of a score to even the game, it was Lewandowski who delivered once again. Defenseman Rosario Ruggeri initiated the offensive rush with a slapshot of boards, ricocheting onto the stick of a charging Lewandowski who converted a quick snapshot to even the contest.

The third period closed with a 2-2 tie. After both teams played even in overtime, the Chiefs' Matt Reid and Lewandowski scored in the shootout to setup Brunelle's game-winner.
