Buffalo Destroyers News Release


(BUFFALO, NY)-The Buffalo Destroyers announced QB Jeff Loots was put on injured reserve today after separating his shoulder in Buffalo's 49-45 victory over Arizona Friday night.

Loots had X-rays on his left (non-throwing) shoulder Monday after it was separated in the fourth quarter on what was the Destroyers game winning drive. Loots is expected to be out at least two weeks. Backup QB Tim Carey will get the start this Saturday as the Destroyers face off with the Georgia Force.

"I am confident that Tim will do a good job in Jeff's absence," said Destroyers head coach Ron Selesky. "Tim been in this league for a few years and knows what it takes to win.

Carey came in for Loots against Arizona completing his only pass for 25 yards as Buffalo went on to score the go-ahead touchdown with 28 seconds left to play. Carey started New England's final seven games in 2000 as a rookie. In those seven starts, Carey was 126 of 211 for 1,716 yards 32 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Buffalo has signed QB Chris Sanders to the 24-man roster. Sanders has been on the practice squad for the first three weeks and suited up in each game as the emergency quarterback. Sanders signed with Buffalo in the off-season after spending the last two seasons in camp with the NFL's Tennessee Titans.

The team also signed QB Matt D'Orazio to the practice squad. D'Orazio played last season for the af2's Rochester Brigade and was among the league leaders in passing and rushing. D'Orazio completed 522 passes for 3,372 yards and 51 touchdowns, finishing sixth in the af2 in total offense with 3,704 yards. He led the Brigade in rushing with 86 attempts for 332 yards and 20 touchdowns (fourth in af2). He tied the league record with five rushing touchdowns against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers on June 29. He has spent time in the AFL with the Milwaukee Mustangs (2000) and the New Jersey Gladiators (2001).

Saturday's game at Georgia will be televised on the Empire Sports Network.
