Destroyers Announce 2003 Team Award Winners

(BUFFALO, NY)- The Buffalo Destroyers announced today the recipients of their annual team awards. DS Dwaine Carpenter was selected the team's Most Valuable Player and OL/DL Ken Bouie was selected the team's Ironman.

Carpenter earned second team All-Arena honors this season leading the Destroyers defense which finished first in the Arena Football League in pass defense (219.1 yards per game), second in total defense (238.5 yards per game) and fourth in scoring defense (46.9 points per game). He finished tied for third in the league with 26 passes defended, fifth with eight interceptions and sixth with 84.0 tackles. Carpenter also broke 10 team records this season including career tackles, career interceptions and career passes defended. Carpenter tied for third in the voting for the league's ADT Defensive Player of the Year Award as well.

Bouie, who signed with Buffalo in the off-season, proved to be one of the most versatile players on team. While playing on the offensive and defensive line, Bouie was able to convert to the fullback/linebacker position when needed. He led the team with four sacks (13th in the AFL) and four quarterback hurries. He also added 20 tackles and one fumble recovery. His crowning moment of the season came week four at Georgia when he picked an onsides kick out of the air and returned it nine yards for his first career touchdown. Bouie finished in the top five for the voting of the AFL' s Linemen of the Year.

The Drive to ArenaBowl XVII continues this weekend on NBC! On Saturday (3) Orlando plays (2) Tampa Bay at 3:00 PM. On Sunday, last year's ArenaBowl participants square off as (6) Arizona takes on (1) San Jose at 5:30 PM. The winners meet in ArenaBowl XVII on June 22.
