Buffalo Destroyers News Release

(BUFFALO, NY) –The Buffalo Destroyers announced today DS Dwaine Carpenter has signed a two year contract with the National Football League's San Francisco 49ers. Carpenter, who will play safety, suited up for the 49ers mini-camp, which started Wednesday.

Carpenter (6-2, 215, North Carolina A&T) earned second team All-Arena honors this season after finishing third in the Arena Football League with 26 pass defenses. He was also tied for fifth in the league with eight interceptions and sixth with 84.0 tackles.

In two seasons with Buffalo, Carpenter recorded 148 tackles, 11 interceptions and 29 pass breakups, all team records. He played one season with the af2's Rochester Brigade in 2001 leading the team with eight interceptions.

"This is a great opportunity for Dwaine and we are excited for him," said Destroyers head coach Ron Selesky. "I think Dwaine is a good fit with the type of defensive schemes that San Francisco runs.

Carpenter is the second Destroyers player to sign with the NFL. WR/DB Jason Waters signed with the Atlanta Falcons last fall and was recently resigned for this season. Carpenter will be put on the Destroyers exempt list and Buffalo retains his AFL rights.
