Albany/Indiana Firebirds News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana Firebirds' wide receiver/defensive back Donnie Caldwell has been named the Arena Football League's ADT Defensive Player of the Week following Sunday afternoon's standout performance in the Firebirds' 28-23 victory over the Chicago Rush. This marks the first time Caldwell has garnered an AFL weekly honor.

Caldwell recorded 4.5 tackles (3 solo), two pass deflections and intercepted Rush quarterback Chad Salisbury, returning it for the game-winning touchdown. Caldwell has two interceptions on the season, both which have been returned for a touchdown.

Caldwell, who was named Ironman of the Game, ignited a Firebirds' defense that held Chicago to a franchise-low 23 points. Caldwell grabbed the attention of every Rush offensive player after laying a vicious hit on Chicago's OS Antonio Chatman, setting the tone for the entire game.

Caldwell (6-0, 185) is in his second year with the Firebirds. He is in his first full season with the team after spending the majority of last season on the injured list. He appeared in three games last season recording five catches for 95 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, he accumulated seven tackles, two interceptions returned for eleven yards, and two pass deflections

Caldwell and the Firebirds return to action this Sunday afternoon when they welcome the Arizona Rattlers to Conseco Fieldhouse with kickoff slated for 3:00 pm. Following the game Skateboard legend Tony Hawk will perform a one-hour demo. Hawks' performance, which is presented by Galyan's, will take place on his own specially made $100,000 ramp that will be built on the Astroturf at Conseco Fieldhouse. Tickets to the event can be purchased at the Conseco Fieldhouse Box Office, all Ticketmaster Outlets, Ticketmaster charge-by-phone at 317-239-5151 and firebirds.com.
