Albany/Indiana Firebirds News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Lags Football LLC, the operating arm for the Indiana Firebirds announced today that they will cease all business operations effective immediately.

Team owner Dave Lageschulte purchased the Firebirds in 2002 from then owner Glenn Mazula in an effort to both protect the Team's membership interest in the Arena Football League and to try and keep the team in the Indianapolis market.

"It has always been my intent to locate local investors in Indianapolis to either purchase the Firebirds in its entirety or to purchase and control a majority interest in the team," commented Lageschulte. "During the past two years, I have actively looked for an investor, or an investment group, to purchase my companies membership interest in the AFL. I have also looked for investors in the Indianapolis market to invest in, and control the Team's operations. I have been unable to find any investors interested in purchasing any interest in the Team."

The Firebirds organization began play in 1990 in Albany, NY and relocated to Indianapolis, IN prior to the 2001 season. The Firebirds organization is the longest tenured team in the AFL, entering the league one year prior to both the Tampa Bay Storm and Orlando Predators.

All current Firebirds' season ticket holders will receive a full refund for any deposits placed towards the 2005 season. All ticket questions can be answered by calling 472-8080 and asking to speak to a Firebirds' ticket representative. The Firebirds' front office will close on September 15th.

The Firebirds won the ArenaBowl XIII Championship in 1999 defeating the Orlando Predators 59-48. In addition, the Firebirds had 11 playoff appearances, and six division championships. The Firebirds organization has four members named to the AFL Hall of Fame including defensive specialist Durwood Roquemore, WR/DB Fred Gayles, Offensive Specialist Reggie Smith , and former owner Glenn Mazula. The Firebirds franchise has a 112-82 career win-loss record and an overall winning percentage of better than 58%.
