Loons Sweep Doubleheader from West Michigan

The Great Lakes Loons swept both games of a doubleheader Monday night winning Game One against the West Michigan Whitecaps 5-4 and taking Game Two 3-0.

In the first game with the score tied 4-4, Tommy Giles, playing in his first game as a Loon, delivered an RBI single to score Josh Bell with the go-ahead run. Josh Wall (3-7) recorded the win, throwing six innings. Miguel Ramirez pitched a 1-2-3 seventh for his seventh save. Giles went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBIs, James Peterson had four hits in four at-bats, and Matt Berezay had two hits - both doubles.

In Game Two, David Pfeiffer (1-0 with the Loons, 2-1 total this season) made his Loons' debut with five shutout innings in his first start of the season. Michael Gardner pitched the final two for his first save. With the score deadlocked in a 0-0 tie, the Loons struck for three in the sixth, highlighted by a bases loaded single by Peterson scoring two.

The Loons' record is now 30-34, four games under .500 and their best record since May 3.

The Loons and Whitecaps conclude their series Tuesday night in Comstock Park, MI. Game time is 7pm, and the game will be available in Mid-Michigan on 100.9-FM and worldwide at Loons.com.
