Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Jaime Landin slugged two home runs on Monday night and Eddie Degerman picked up his first Swing win as the Swing of the Quad Cities sailed to a 3-0 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at John O'Donnell Stadium.

Quad Cities (36-27) pitched a shutout for the second game in a row, remaining in the playoff picture with just six games left in the first half. Wisconsin (17-45) dropped their ninth straight game, a skid that began with a four-game sweep at the hands of the Swing from June 2-5 in Grand Chute.

There was no score heading into the bottom of the third when the Swing drew first blood. After Daryl Jones reached base on a one-out error, Landin blasted his fourth home run of the year, an opposite-field shot to right that gave Quad Cities a 2-0 lead.

That score remained until the eighth, when the 24-year-old from Texas stepped into the box with two outs and the bases empty. Landin promptly turned on an 0-1 pitch and launched it to left for his second bomb of the night and fifth of the year.

The pitching staff did the rest, as Eddie Degerman, Shaun Garceau, and All-Star Kenny Maiques combined on a five-hit shutout. After back-to-back shutouts on Sunday and Monday, the Swing have lowered their team ERA to 2.99.

Degerman (1-1) started for the Swing and twirled five scoreless innings, striking out eight while allowing just one hit to notch his first win since joining Quad Cities on May 5. The right-hander's stuff featured deceptive movement throughout his outing, as Wisconsin was unable to get a runner past first base with the former Rice University standout on the mound.

Garceau, the piggyback starter, added three scoreless frames, but was removed after allowing an infield single to open the top of the ninth. Maiques finished the job from there, pickup up a pair of strikeouts while retiring all three batters he faced for his 14th save.
