Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

DAVENPORT, IA -- The Swing of the Quad Cities shutout the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 3-0 Monday night at John O'Donnell Stadium. Jaime Landin hit a pair of homers to drive in all the runs that Eddie Degerman would need. Degerman worked six innings and struck out eight for his first win of the season. Wisconsin did not get a runner past second base all night as they dropped their ninth straight game.

Wisconsin (17-45) was put in a tough spot before the game started. Scheduled starter Tony Butler was a late scratch and Steve Richard had to be moved up a day to make the start against the Swing.

Landin put the Swing (36-27) in front 2-0 in the bottom of the third. Daryl Jones reached on an error. Landin lined a 1-1 pitch over the right field fence for an opposite field. That home run was the second and final hit given up by Richard. The Wisconsin righty pitched six innings, walked three, and struck out six.

But, Degerman was just a bit better on this night. The Swing starter allowed just one hit over five innings to earn the win. In ten innings against the Rattlers this season, Degerman has given up two runs on two hits and struck out sixteen.

Landin hit his second home run of the game in the bottom of the eighth. Rattler reliever Andrew Barb got the first two outs of the eighth, but Landin lifted a high fly to left and the ball easily cleared the fence for his fifth homer of season.

Shaun Garceau was the second Quad Cities pitcher and he gave up four hits in three plus innings of work, including a lead off single to Kuo Hui Lo in the top of the ninth. But, Swing closer Kenny Maiques got the final three outs for his fourteenth save of the season.

The Rattlers and Swing continue the series on Tuesday night. Wisconsin's starting pitcher is tentatively set to be Justin Souza in an emergency start. The Swing will counter with Blake King (2-1, 4.80). Game time is 7:00pm.
