Great Lakes Loons News Release
For the second consecutive night, putting runners in motion sent the Great Lakes Loons to victory at Dow Diamond in front of 2,873 fans by a score of 5-4.
With the Loons trailing 1-0 in the third inning, Loons catcher Kenley Jansen blasted a solo home run, his first of the season, to tie the game. The Loons went on to score four runs in the inning thanks to an RBI-single by Andrew Lambo and a two-run double by Brian Mathews to make it 4-1.
Then in the sixth, the Dragons struck for three runs to tie the game at four with Brandon Waring's two-run home run. The blast chased Loons starter Bryan Morris, who returned to action following Tommy John surgery for the first time since September 2, 2006. Denis Phipps followed with an RBI-double to tie the game at four.
Then in the sixth, in his Loons debut, outfielder Travis Vetters walked with one out and proceeded to steal second and third base. On Vetters' steal of third, the throw sailed off Waring's glove and into left field, scoring Vetters' game-decisive run.
Morris made his Loons debut going 5 2/3 innings allowing six hits and three runs while striking out six. Geison Aguasviva pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief (1-0) and picked up the victory. Bobby Blevins pitched a scoreless eighth striking out three batters and closer Miguel Ramirez came on and pitched a perfect ninth, picking up his second save of the season.
At the plate, Andrew Lambo and Brian Mathews paced the Loons with two hits apiece.
Jamie Arneson started for Dayton and allowed four runs on six hits in four innings. Terrell Young picked up the tough-luck loss allowing an unearned run to score during his two innings of work.
The Loons are now 2-0, tying a franchise record for most games over .500.
