Bees Lose For The First Time As They Even Series With Peoria

Burlington, IA (April 4, 2008) - The Burlington Bees dropped a game for the first time this season as they lost to Peoria 7-3 Friday night at Community Field. Burlington starting pitcher Matt Mitchell pitched five innings of scoreless baseball but Peoria starter Dae-Eun Rhee was just as good in his five innings of work.

During the first five innings, the two teams combined for only four hits as the two starting pitchers combined for nine strikeouts. Mitchell was relieved by Eduardo Paulino in the in the sixth inning and allowed a leadoff homerun to Drew Rundle. Peoria scored three more runs in the seventh. One of the runs came on a Rundle double with Cliff Anderson scoring but Dylan Johnston being thrown out at home by Adrian Ortiz. Two more runs scored in the inning on a Nate Sampson single where he advanced to second on a throwing error by shortstop Mike Moustakas. That error was one of three on the night for Moustakas and one of four on the night for the Bees.

Ben Swaggerty relieved Paulino in the eighth inning. After allow just one hit in the eighth, Swaggerty loaded the bases in the top of the ninth. Josh Donaldson then cleared the bases with a double.

The Bees scored a run in each of their final three innings. In the seventh with Jason Taylor on second base, Antonio Jimenez singled Taylor home. In the eighth, Moustakas singled Adrian Ortiz in from third. In the ninth, Wilson Tucker led the inning off with a homerun to right field. Ortiz and David Lough were the only Bees with multiple hits as they each had two.

Rhee, who was making his professional debut, picked up the win with Steve Vento registering the save. Paulino took the loss for Burlington.

Game three of the four-game series will be played on Saturday night at Community Field. Edward Cegarra is expected to start for the Bees while Chris Siegfried will go for the Chiefs. A Fireworks spectacular will take place after the game sponsored by J&M Displays. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and also online at www.GoBees.com. First pitch is set for 6:30.
