
Kernels rally to take season opener, 10-6

April 4, 2008 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels scored ten runs over the final three innings to win the first game of the 2008 MWL season, 10-6, over the Clinton LumberKings at Alliant Energy Field on Friday night.
Tyler Johnson led the Kernels offense going 2 for 4 with a HR and 2 RBI. Hector Estrella was 2 for 4 with a double as the Kernels pounded out 11 hits, but only one of them of Clinton starter Derek Holland.
Holland held the Kernels to one hit over six innings pitched and struck out nine with no walks. He was lifted for reliever Adalberto Flores, who surrendered four runs on four hits over an inning pitched.
Kernels starter Robert Fish allowed four runs on three hits, walked three and struck out five over 3.2 innings. The Kernel bullpen didn't allow Clinton another hit, although the LumberKings scored two unearned runs off winning pitcher Brian Chambers (1-0). Ryan Brasier struck out one over the final 1.1 innings to earn his first save of the season.
Andrew Romine and Jay Brossman each had a double and Clay Fuller had an RBI triple. Anel De Los Santos had 2 RBI to go along with RBI's from Brossman and Estrella.
The Kernels will play a DH at Clinton on Saturday to make up the game that was postponed by weather on Thursday. Jordan Walden and Michael Davitt will start for the Kernels against Evan Reed and Neftali Feliz for Clinton.
