Great Lakes Loons News Release
FORT WAYNE, IN - Daniel Robertson lifted a sacrifice fly into left field with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth inning to bring home the only run of Saturday's 1-0 Fort Wayne win over the Loons at Parkview Field.
On the play, Vince Belnome tagged at third and scored under the tag of catcher Matt Wallach, according to home plate umpire Chris Nguyen. The call drew the ire of Wallach, first baseman Jerry Sands and manager Juan Bustabad, all of whom were ejected by Nguyen. Those three joined Fort Wayne manager Doug Dascenzo and Loons second baseman Jaime Pedroza as ejection victims of Nguyen during the three-game series.
Both starting pitchers were brilliant through six shutout innings, but neither factored into the decision. Josh Walter allowed just three hits striking out four. Simon Castro struck out nine, surrendering four hits.
Geison Aguasviva threw a 1-2-3 seventh inning before running into trouble in the eighth. Leadoff man Cole Figueroa singled, then Aguasviva misplayed a bunt attempt by Belnome. After loading the bases on a walk, he induced a ground ball fielder's choice to short by Adam Zornes, setting the table for Robertson's sac fly. The run scored in the eighth was unearned.
Rob Musgrave, Alexis Lara and Brad Brach threw scoreless relief innings for Fort Wayne. Lara (4-0) notched the win with Brach recording his league-leading 33rd save.
Anthony Hatch and Blake Tekotte were the only players with more than one hit. Hatch extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
The Loons return to Dow Diamond for a season-ending three-game series against the Dayton Dragons. Right-hander Bobby Blevins (10-10, 4.21 ERA) starts for the Loons against Dayton left-hander Ezequiel Infante (2-1, 2.85). Game time is 7:05pm. Tickets are available at Loons.com or by calling 989-837-BALL.
Tickets remain on sale for Loons' September 9 playoff game against West Michigan, also a 7:05pm game at Dow Diamond, the first playoff game in team history. All Loons home playoff games will feature the Chemical Bank Dollar Family Feast Night promotion.
