
Bees Open Final Regular Season Series with a Victory

Cedar Rapids, IA (September 5, 2009) - The Burlington Bees opened the final series of the regular season defeating Cedar Rapids 4-0. Tim Melville picked up the win pitching five shutout innings while the Bees scored three runs in the first two innings and never looked back.
The Bees got on the scoreboard first with one run in the top of the first inning. With one out, Fernando Garcia walked, moved to second on a David Wood base-hit and then stole third. After a pick-off play removed Garcia from the bases and moved David Wood up to third, David Wood scored on a wild pitch to give the Bees a 1-0 lead.
The Bees added to their lead scoring two runs in the second inning. Jason Morales led the inning off with a walk and then stole second before Ryan Wood walked with one out. Hilton Richardson then came to the plate and doubled, which scored both Morales and Ryan Wood to give the Bees a 3-0 lead. After four scoreless innings, the Bees put another run on the board in the seventh inning. Juan Graterol led the inning off with a single and then stole second. After moving to third on a ground-out, Graterol scored the Bees' fourth run of the day on a wild pitch.
Tim Melville got the start and picked up the win to even his record at 7-7. Melville threw five shutout innings allowing just four hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Cole White pitched 2.1 shutout innings allowing just two hits with three strikeouts and one walk. White picked up his fourth hold of the year. James Thompson pitched the final 1.2 innings and allowed just one hit with two strikeouts and one walk.
The Bees were outhit 7-6. Garcia and Graterol each had two hits. Richardson had two RBI.
The Bees continue the series at Cedar Rapids on Sunday. Manauris Baez is the scheduled starter with first pitch scheduled for 5:05.
