MIDLAND, Mich. - The Great Lakes Loons (16-15) bounced back from a weekend sweep to open a big four-game series against the Midwest League-leading Fort Wayne TinCaps (21-10) with an impressive 7-3 win on a beautiful Tuesday night at Dow Diamond. The Loons snapped their three-game losing streak and handed the TinCaps their third loss in a row.

After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the third inning, the Loons came right back in the bottom of the inning with four runs of their own to grab a lead they would never relinquish. Center fielder Nick Buss had the big blow, a two-run homer to left center field to snap a 2-2 tie and deliver the game-deciding runs for Great Lakes. Buss finished the game a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

The Loons added single runs in the fourth (Austin Gallagher sacrifice fly), fifth (Alfredo Silverio double), and seventh (Anthony Hatch two-out single) to put the decisive victory away. Eight of the nine Loons in the batting order notched at least one hit in the contest.

Loons starting pitcher JonMichael Redding delivered another strong start, working five innings and limiting the TinCaps to only those two third inning runs on five hits. He upped his record to 5-1 and tied a pair of South Bend hurlers, Trevor Harden and Ryan Cook, for the Midwest League lead in wins. Redding has now won his last four starts and he picked up his second win of the season against Fort Wayne.

The Loons bullpen turned in a solid effort to back Redding, led by three scoreless innings of work from Robert Boothe, who allowed only one hit and one walk against four strikeouts. Nathan Eovaldi worked the ninth inning, allowing a run on one hit in his first relief appearance of the season. TinCaps right-hander Anthony Bass (2-3) took the loss, allowing five runs and eight hits in four innings.

The Loons gained a full game on the TinCaps in the Midwest League Eastern division standings, but only a half-game on first place because West Michigan (21-9) took over the top spot in the division with its win in Dayton tonight. Great Lakes is now 5.5 games out of first and 5.0 games behind Fort Wayne.

Game two of the four-game series between the Loons and TinCaps is slated for 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday night at Dow Diamond. Right-hander Ethan Martin (3-1, 2.16) goes to the mound for the Loons against TinCaps' righty Mat Latos (2-0, 0.00). Tomorrow night also features the Science of Baseball high school science fair, presented by Dow Corning. Tickets are available by calling 989-837-BALL or by visiting Loons.com.

The Great Lakes Loons are the third-year Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
