Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - Kane County Cougars outfielder Jeremy Barfield made some franchise history Tuesday night at Elfstrom Stadium, belting three home runs against the Burlington Bees to lead the Cougars to a 13-1 victory. Barfield tied a franchise record for homers in a game, becoming the fifth different player and the first since 2006 to bash a trio of round-trippers in one game. He is part of a Cougars offense that now has scored 31 runs in the last two games.

Barfield's first homer came in the second off Zach Peterson (3-2) with Franklin Hernandez on base. Then after Hernandez drove in a run in the fourth, Barfield hit another two-run blast for a 5-0 Cougars lead. The last of the three came in the seventh inning against reliever Carlos Arias, a three-run connection that made it 13-1. Barfield finished with seven RBIs, one shy of the club's single-game record, and he is 7-for-9 in the last two games with eight runs, nine RBIs and four homers. Hernandez scored four times to assist the attack. Mitch LeVier also homered, and he and Petey Paramore each drove in two.

Starter Ben Hornbeck (3-0) baffled the Bees for the third time this year to get the win, this time posting six shutout innings of three-hit ball. All of Hornbeck's wins are against Burlington, and he has allowed just one unearned run in 16 innings against them with 19 strikeouts. Matt Fitts worked the final three innings and allowed one run for his second save.

The Cougars (20-11) and Bees (12-18) continue their four-game series Wednesday night at 6 CDT. Anthony Capra (0-1, 2.00) will oppose Bryan Casey (1-3, 2.82).
