LANSING, MI - The offensive struggles continued Sunday afternoon from the state capital for the Great Lakes Loons as they drop their third straight game, 3-1 to the Lansing Lugnuts.

Loons starter Thomas Melgarejo (0-0) pitched effectively in five innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out four. He left with the Loons' trailing 1-0. The Loons tied the game in the sixth on an RBI double by third baseman Josh Bell, who broke out of a 2-for-21 start to the season with a pair of hits in four at bats. Lansing retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning on a Brian Pettway double against reliever Doug Brooks (0-1). They added an insurance run in the eighth inning, when with two outs, Loons center fielder Trayvon Robinson appeared to make a routine catch for the third out of the game. But the ball was dropped by Robinson, who appeared to be pulling the ball out of his glove with his bare hand on a controversial call that brought Loons' manager Lance Parrish out of the dugout to argue. The Loons brought the potential game-tying and go-ahead runs to the plate in the ninth inning, but failed to score.

The Loons and Lugnuts conclude their four game series tonight in Lansing. Game time is 6:05pm. The Loons return to Dow Diamond for an eight-game homestand beginning on Tuesday with four games Tuesday-Friday against the Peoria Chiefs, managed by Hall of Fame second baseman Ryne Sandberg. Great seats are still available by phone at 989-837-BALL or online at Loons.com.
