Great Lakes Loons News Release
The Loons will host a bit of history when the Peoria Chiefs come to town for a four-game series April 17-20. The matchup will see a battle of former Major League all-stars turned managers as Lance Parrish's Great Lakes Loons take on Hall of Fame second baseman Ryne Sandberg's Chiefs.
The man also known as "Ryno" joined the eternal baseball brotherhood when he was elected to the Baseball's Hall of Fame on July 31, 2005. Sandberg established himself as a perennial All-Star and Gold Glove candidate, making 10 consecutive All-Star appearances and winning nine straight Gold Gloves from 1983-1991.
Parrish, known as the "Big Wheel," was named to the Major League all-star team eight times in 1980, 1982-86, 1988, and 1990, and he won three Gold Glove Awards from 1983-85.
Fans shouldn't miss the opportunity to see these two legends of the game square off. In addition, the Loons are featuring outstanding promotions for all four games. In Game One Tuesday, it's the Loons' Sling Bag Giveaway where the first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a Loons Sling Bag. On Wednesday night, students from local colleges and universities are encouraged to attend the Loons first-ever "College Night," sponsored by Saginaw Valley State University. The night will feature a live band during pre-game and students will have the opportunity to compete in the College Olympics throughout the game. The winner of College Olympics will be crowned Loons College Olympic Champion and will receive a free Loons' prize pack.
On Thursday, the Loons give you chance to break out of the office doldrums, cut off your tie and join the Loons on Office Night. See clips from Office Space, the Office, and others as entertain all night long and start the weekend early. Friday night looks to be a hot ticket as Dow Diamond's first piece of memorabilia is given away. The first 3,500 fans through the gates will receive a free Inaugural Game Poster courtesy of FP Horak. The poster will feature the first ever pitch thrown at Dow Diamond, so come early and get your piece of Loons history.
Great seats still remain for the series by dialing 989-837-BALL or by visiting Loons.com.
