Montgomery Biscuits News Release
CHATTANOOGA, TN - The Chattanooga Lookouts (2-5) reversed their fortunes and breezed past the Biscuits (2-5), 10-2, on Wednesday night at AT&T Field in Chattanooga.
The Biscuits capitalized on early miscues from the Lookouts to take a 2-0 lead through two innings. Desmond Jennings provided the spark in the second inning, walking with two outs before stealing second base. He advanced to third when Brandon Chaves provided an infield single - one of just two hits for the Biscuits on the evening. Jennings then surprised Chattanooga starter Scott Elbert and stole home to score the Biscuits second run.
The lead was short-lived as Jamie Hoffman homered to lead off the bottom of the second for Chattanooga. The blast off of Biscuits' starter Aneury Rodriguez cut the lead to 2-1. One of the six walks Rodriguez issued to the Lookouts allowed JD Closser to reach a batter later. Juan Gonzalez doubled him to third before he tied the game on an RBI-groundout from Adam Godwin.
Five walks from Rodriguez led to the Lookouts plating two runs without the benefit of a hit in the fourth inning as Chattanooga took the lead for good, 4-2. Rodriguez (0-2) departed before the conclusion of the inning and was tagged with the loss after permitting four earned runs in 2 2/3 innings.
The Lookouts tacked on six runs against the Biscuits bullpen, with two earned runs charged to reliever Brian Baker and four to Mike Wlodarczyk.
Meanwhile, the Lookouts pen was superb, turning in five scoreless innings to keep the Lookouts in control. Elbert went four innings and wasn't eligible for the victory. Francisco Felix (1-0) earned the win in relief, working 2 2/3 scoreless innings. Victor Garate closed out the Lookouts victory with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Jennings provided the only other hit for Montgomery, tripling to lead off the fifth inning. He also provided the lone bright spots for the Biscuits, stealing three bases in the loss.
Game three of the series is scheduled for Thurday night at AT&T Field at 6:15 PM. RHP Heath Rollins (0-0, 0.00) will make the start for the Biscuits against RHP Josh Lindblom (1-0, 1.80) for Chattanooga.
