Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Corey Smith and Trayvon Robinson both hit solo shots to lead the Lookouts to a 4-3 win over Tennessee in Sunday afternoon action at AT&T Field

The Lookouts efficiently entered the scoreboard in the second inning on a Corey Smith solo shot. The big bats continued for Chattanooga in the third with two more runs. Elian Herrera led off with a single and advanced to second on a Trayvon Robinson sacrifice bunt. Scott Van Slyke followed with a double to bring Herrera home.

After a passed ball, Smith added to his RBI total by grounding out to shortstop Starlin Castro and plating Van Slyke in the process.

Lookouts starting pitcher Mario Alvarez took a no-hitter into the fourth, but a Matthew Spencer single ended the big bid and brought home Robinson Chirinos in the process. Trayvon Robinson hit a solo blast in the seventh, which would prove to be a critical insurance run for the Lookouts.

Faced with a 4-1 deficit, the Smokies did not go down without a fight. Starlin Castro led off with a double in the eighth and made his way to third on a Ty Wright single. With runners on the corners, Blake Lolli hit into a double play, which brought home Castro to put the score at 4-2.

Relief pitcher Eric Krebs would earn his first save of the season by pitching in the ninth, but it would not come without some histrionics. With the bases loaded and two outs, Castro hit a slow roller up the middle, which was fielded by shortstop Dee Gordon. Gordon attempted an athletic play in which he fielded the ball and tagged second base in one successive motion, but the nimble shortstop was just off on his timing on a close play at second. With the infield single, the score sat at 4-3 with the bases still loaded. Wright then stepped up to the plate and hit a sharp grounder to second baseman Jaime Pedroza, who fielded the ball cleanly and threw to first to successfully end the contest.

Alvarez (3-2) earned the win for the Lookouts by pitching six innings of one-run ball. He yielded four hits and four walks, while striking out four.

Hung-Wen Chen (3-1) took the loss for the Smokies. He pitched 5.1 innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks, while striking out two.

The Chattanooga Lookouts and Tennessee Smokies wrap-up their five-game series at 7:15 P.M., tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
