Carolina Mudcats News Release
Mobile, AL --- The Mobile BayBears scored twice in the seventh inning to snap a 2-2 game and defeated the Carolina Mudcats for the third time in four games 4-2 at Hank Aaron Stadium on Sunday night.
Kris Negorn drilled a homer to left-center in the top of the seventh to even the score before Mobile (11-13) pushed across two runs against reliever Daryl Harang in the bottom half. After a walk and an error by Negron, Gerson Montilla sacrificed the runners ahead before Jake Wald drooped a single against the right field line to give Mobile a 3-2 lead. Pinch-hitter Ricardo Sosa then grounded a single to left to pick up an insurance run as the Mudcats (7-17) lost for the 13th time in 14 games.
Carolina took a 1-0 lead for starter Daryl Thompson in the second when the first four batters reached without an out. Jose Castro scratched out an infield single with the bases loaded to score Brandon Yarbrough for a 1-0 lead, however the Mudcat rally was quashed by Bryan Shaw. Shaw retired Thompson on a pop fly, fanned Negron and retired Dave Sappelt to end the frame.
Thompson received a no-decision, working six innings, allowing only two runs.
Carolina completes its 10-game road trip on Monday afternoon at 12:35 PM ET against Mobile, with Traivs Webb making his Double-A debut.
