Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

Jacksonville, Fla. - Tim Torres drove in the go-ahead runs in a sixth inning rally while Michael Stanton added insurance with an eighth inning homerun, extending his Minor League-leading total to 12, as the Jacksonville Suns (15-8) defeated the Mississippi Braves (12-12) 10-4 in front of 5,518 Sunday afternoon at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Suns reliever Todd Doolittle (2-0) picked up the winning decision, giving up a run in one and two-thirds innings. Braves starter Scott Diamond (0-3) suffered the loss, allowing six runs over five and two-thirds innings of work.

Jacksonville opened the scoring in the first inning as Lorenzo Scott led off with a single and later scored on a Stanton sacrifice fly for a 1-0 score. The Braves took the lead right back in the second inning. Donell Linares led off with a walk before Cody Johnson lined a homerun into the right field seats, his third of the series, opening a 2-1 Braves lead.

Mississippi added a third run in the sixth inning. Johnson led off with a single, stole second and third base and scored on a Concepcion Rodriguez single for a 3-1 Braves advantage.

The Suns started to rally in the bottom of the sixth. Brandon Tripp had entered the game earlier on a double switch and led off with an opposite field homerun, cutting the Braves lead to 3-2. Lorenzo Scott and Ozzie Martinez next singled before an intentional walk of Stanton to load the bases. Following strikeouts from Mark Saccomanno and Vinny Rottino, Matt Dominguez drew a bases loaded walk to bring in the game-tying run.

After the Braves brought in reliever Michael Broadway, Tim Torres belted a double over the centerfielder's head, bringing in all three runners to open a 6-3 Suns lead.

In the eighth inning, Stanton led off with a homerun inside the left field pole, opening a 7-3 score. Later in the inning Chris Hatcher knocked in a run with a single while Brandon Tripp plated two more with a base hit for a 10-3 lead.

Mississippi ended the scoring in the ninth inning as a Mauro Gomez double scored Luis Bolivar for a 10-4 final.

Suns RH Brad Stone will face Braves RH Erik Cordier in the deciding game of the series Monday at 11:05 a.m. Thousands of school kids from throughout Duval County will attend the game for Celebration of Reading Day #3. Limited tickets are available by calling 358-2846 or by visiting jaxsuns.com.
