Lookouts Endure M-Braves, 7-6

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Mississippi and Chattanooga duked it out for nine innings, and the Lookouts staved off several comeback attempts by the M-Braves en route to a 7-6 win in Tuesday night action at AT&T Field.

Mississippi and Chattanooga swapped big first innings to begin the night's action. The Braves plated three, highlighted by a Brandon Jones two-run shot, while the Lookouts matched and raised Mississippi by scoring four runs. RBI doubles from Eddy Perez, Russ Mitchell, and Gaby Gutierrez accounted for the Lookouts' damage.

The Lookouts kept rolling in the second inning with two more runs. James Tomlin and Ramon Nivar led off with a singles and advanced into scoring position on a double-steal. Mitchell struck again with a double to give the Lookouts a 6-3 lead. The Braves added a run in the third on a Greg Creek RBI double, which was prefaced by a Willie Cabrera single.

Mitchell, once again, hit a run-resulting RBI double in the fourth to put the score at 7-4.

Mississippi inched closer by scoring a run in the seventh and eighth inning, respectively. Brandon Hicks hit a solo shot in the seventh, while Jose Camarena nailed an RBI single in eighth to account for the damage. With the M-Braves down just 7-6, Lookouts closer Harvey Garcia successfully closed the door on Mississippi in the ninth to earn his third save of the season for Chattanooga.

Travis Chick (7-6) settled down after having a rough first frame to throw six innings in the win for the Lookouts. He yielded four runs on nine hits and one walk, while striking out four. Jose Ortegano (4-2) took the loss for the M-Braves. In six innings of work, he surrendered seven runs (five earned), nine hits, and two walks. He struck out three in the losing effort.
