Mobile BayBears News Release
MOBILE, Ala. - Another honor for a pair of BayBears Hall of Famers as Mark Reynolds and Justin Upton are two of the three representatives from the Arizona Diamondbacks to be nominated for the 2009 Hank Aaron Award, presented to the best hitter in each league as voted for by baseball fans worldwide.
Reynolds, 26, has had a breakout year offensively with 38 home runs, currently second in the majors behind Albert Pujols, and 84 RBI. In addition, Reynolds' .281 batting average and 21 stolen bases are career-highs. With 12 more dingers and nine more steals, Reynolds would become the first player in baseball history to reach 50 homers and 30 stolen bases in the same season.
Upton, 22, has ripped a .301 average to go with 20 home runs in 2009. He's also swiped 16 bases to go with 66 runs batted in. Upton, an All-Star for the first time in his career this season, is currently on the disabled list but will return to the Diamondbacks shortly.
The Hank Aaron Award has been in existence since 1999 to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Mobile native Hank Aaron surpassing Babe Ruth on the All-Time Home Run list. Hank Aaron Award finalists will be announced on September 16 with the ultimate winners presented at the World Series.
To vote for the 2009 Hank Aaron Award, please go to the following website: http://mlb.mlb.com/sponsors/sharp/awards/haa.jsp and vote as many as times as possible for your favorite former BayBear.
